Hah Taew — The Five Rows

Hah Taew, the Five Rows, is one of the best-known Sak Yant designs, made up of five stacked lines of ancient Khmer script, each row carrying its own khata.

Traditionally, each line is chanted 108 times during the tattooing ritual. Belief holds that once complete, the five khata combine into a single, well-rounded design covering protection, fortune, and personal charm in one piece.

Traditionally believed to grant, row by row:

• Row 1: protection from unjust treatment and unwanted spirits around the home
• Row 2: reversal of bad luck and unfavorable star influences
• Row 3: protection from black magic and curses
• Row 4: a boost to success, luck, and fortune
• Row 5: charisma and attraction in personal interactions
